The Best Little Thrift Shop in Danbury

Where we are located

The shop is in the basement of the First Congregational Church of Danbury at the corner of West Street and Deer Hill Avenue. A little hard to find, it is worth the trip!

The store is open Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00am to 2:00pm. We are looking for volunteers to allow us to have more hours. It would be a great learning opportunity for a High School student looking to get experience in a small shop or a retired person who likes people. The Thrift Shop is an Outreach Program of the First Congregational Church. For more on their work see the Thrift Shop Outreach Program

About Us

Jan Hamlin is a long time volunteer at the Deer Hill Thrift Shop. Despite the thrifty prices, Jan Hamlin, Terry Hanson and others have a flair for giving the shop the appearance of an upscale boutique. The atmosphere is a warm and friendly one, reminiscent of the “corner store” where neighbors came in to visit as well as to shop.

Our Wares

In the pictures below you will see some of the quality and variety that the volunteers pack into a small space. The thrift shop is packed with high-quality clothing -- some even have the original store tags. Some of the more unusual items they have sold are a crab cage, an authentic Chinese shoulder yoke complete with rice buckets, and even a real harpoon -- presumably from the whaling ship Pequod

We also offer an extensive costume rental section for school and community productions.

We are always interested in donations of items, however due to space constraints, we are not able to take furniture, TVs, microwave ovens or computers.

A Busy Place!
DSCF0003_b.JPG

We have a nice selection of quality children’s and men’s clothes as well as jewelry, sewing and knitting items, luggage, toys, decorative pieces (such as paintings) and gift items.

We sell a wide variety of items; women’s clothing, household items and linens constitute the largest percentage.  DSCF0004_b.JPG

Books!

We have plenty of books for both adults and children. Unlike some bargain stores, they are shelved and well organized.

Shoes!

Our ladies', men's and children's shoes are always clean and in good repair, sometimes even brand

new. Turnover is brisk with new items arriving almost every week.

  Ladies Fashions

Our ladies' department is one of the busiest in the store. Clothing is updated every week and always in very good-to-excellent condition.  Our boutique section has the best values for upscale items to be found anywhere in the area, featuring name brands with minimal previous wear.

Clothing for all ages!

Our clothing racks have many name brands and are offered at a set price for all--such as all blouses, skirts, slacks for $3.00 each. Many weeks we will have overstock specials with a specific item on sale for $1.00 each. Vintage pieces may also be available.

Furnishings!

Besides a vast array of housewares and furniture, sometimes there is an interesting antique piece as well.
